“Casting announcements are just rumours”: what we really know about the Fantastic Four

Matt Shakman, the director of the reboot of the Marvel film “The Fantastic Four” finally gives some news.

Asked by Collider for the promotion of his series The Consultant, director Matt Shakman finally gives some information on the expected reboot of the Fantastic Four. The filmmaker, nominated for the Emmy Awards for the WandaVision series, has revealed that filming will begin in early 2024 for a release scheduled for February 15, 2025.

Announced for 2023, the feature film featuring the MCU’s first family had been postponed to November 2024 before being postponed again after the departure of Jon Watts, the director of Spider-Man: No Way Home from the staging.

Matt Shakman has a busy schedule as he is currently writing the live-action series featuring Godzilla and the Titans. He declares : “You know, I’m still finishing the Godzilla project. We are in the writing stage, and we still have a few months left. The Fantastic Four will then be my life until Valentine’s Day 2025.”

The screenwriter and director therefore completes the writing of the 10-episode series which will follow the events of Godzilla vs Kong in 2021 before launching body and soul into the new version of the Fantastic Four.

No casting yet

Shakman took advantage of this interview to deny the many casting rumors circulating about the film. Speculation has not ceased, especially around the role of Mr. Fantastic.

After John Krasinski who briefly played the character in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the scoopers announced Adam Driver in the role and Jodie Comer in that of The Invisible Woman.

The director says:

Any casting announcements you see are just rumors. We are at the beginning of the process. We have nothing to announce at this time, and when we do, we’ll let you know.

While Marvel’s Phase V will kick off next Wednesday, February 15 with the release of Ant-Man 3: Quantumania, and is expected to conclude with Armor Wars, Fantastic Four will be part of Phase VI which is expected to begin in November 2024 with the introduction of Deadpool to the MCU.
