The fifth film in the Evil Dead saga is revealed through a bloody first trailer! Lee Cronin’s film is expected in theaters on April 19, 2023.
The first images of the 5th installment of the Evil Dead franchise started in 1981 by Sam Raimi have just been unveiled.
Directed by Lee Cronin (The Only Child) and produced by Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, Evil Dead Rise follows two sisters (Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan). Separated for many years, their reunion is interrupted by the appearance of flesh-eating demons, pushing them into a primal battle for survival.
Very, very bloody images! Keep the youngest away from your screen! With in particular a nod to the blood flow scene from The Shining… A first creepy trailer, therefore, and uncensored, shows the girls’ mother possessed, most likely by the demon Kandarian controlled by the book of the dead Necronomicon. And the promo of the film makes fun of this maternal bond with the tagline of the poster “Mom loves you to death”.
The setting of the horror feature film changes from the previous ones since the latter takes place in an urban environment and not in an isolated cabin in the woods.
Neither really a sequel, nor really a remake, Evil Dead Rise is considered by Bruce Campbell (the interpreter of Ash in the original trilogy), as a completely different Evil Dead film. Note that the cult actor is not in the cast of this new film.
The actor specified at the microphone ofEntertainment Weekly in July 2021: “People can call it whatever they want: a sequel, a remake, a reimagining. It’s really just another Evil Dead movie. It’s centered around the book. Everything revolves around the Necronomicon. Where is this book found and what has become of it over the millennia?”
The feature film which required 6500 liters of fake blood is therefore not the sequel to the 2013 reboot by Fede Alvarez but is based more on the original trilogy.
Evil Dead Rise will be released in our theaters on April 19, 2023.
