Following the recent debut of Germany’s first gay TV show All You Need, here’s a new show highlighting lesbian love stories – and we’re very excited about it! Sadly, these stories have been quite underrepresented and it is high time they got the space they deserve.
Directed by Leonie Krippendorff, “Loving Her” tells the story of Hannah and her love life in Berlin and it couldn’t be more relevant to us. After struggling to find work in Berlin during the pandemic, she is about to return to live with her parents when she bumps into an ex-girlfriend and her new partner, triggering quite a trip down memory lane. , including all the relationships and affairs she has had in Berlin. Each episode is dedicated to a different girl who was part of her love life in the city and each represents different challenges and life lessons she learned.
Compared to All You Need which tackles a variety of issues from multiple characters Loving Her really focuses on the different love stories of the main character played by Banafshe Hourmazdi (who you may know from the queer movie Futur Drei), which makes it makes a more intimate and personal film. type of story. Even though there would be so many other aspects to focus on, like considering the main character to be a person of color, it’s kind of refreshing to be able to just focus on the love story without doing any problem the very existence of the character himself.

If you are in a frenzy of several hours during the weekend, however, you will have to hold your horses! The show which is actually an adaptation of the 2018 Dutch series Anna + follows a new kind of format with fairly short and bite-sized episodes of only 10 to 13 minutes, so that the entire season doesn’t represents just over an hour. We certainly would have appreciated being able to spend more time with these characters than that, but we’ll take it as is. Hopefully we will have more formats like Loving Her and All You Need!
All Loving Her episodes are available to stream from today (July 1, 2021, 10:00 am) at ZDF Mediathek. The show is in German language.
