He played sinuous, cynical, disturbing villains with conviction. And it could be very scary. I felt it when he appeared at the end of Seven, playing a grinning monster who kills with diabolical sadism people who embody the deadly sins. He also made me restless when in usual suspects discover his true nature and give life, evil and manipulative capacity to a politician as corrupt as he is intelligent in the series House of Cards. He made me laugh and also feel sorry for that unhappy man who decides to abandon his masks and transgress what he appeared in the tragicomic American Beauty.

This gentleman is called Kevin Spacey. I speak in the past, since for many years he has disappeared from the screens and I doubt that he will be on them again. They erased him, expelled him from paradise and even shot a finished film in which he had co-starred with another actor. Hollywood, as hypocritical as it is pragmatic, treated him like a plague when he was accused of sexual crimes against five men, of having raped them abusing his power and his influence. He was a very tasty morsel, as Woody Allen was to the Me Too in hunting down sexual predators of him. The general public did not know real criminals and stalkers like Weinstein and Epstein, but they did know suspicious relatives like Spacey and Allen. The morbidity was insured with his presumed guilt. And of course, the inquisition found them guilty before they were tried.

The jury found Allen not guilty twice but he could no longer shoot in the United States. And the jury has just acquitted Spacey in England. It turned out, what a horror, that they declared him innocent. I imagine the media will tiptoe over his acquittal. And the Me Too will cry out against justice that does not agree with them. What fear and what disgust inspire me those who never doubt that the gods and the truth are always on their side. Spacey has temporarily screwed up a high-paying job designed to convince them that bad guys are always guys.
