OnePlus 12 is scheduled to launch in China on December 5. Ahead of the launch, OnePlus has released a teaser and several images of the upcoming flagship. These confirm some major changes in the design and camera. While the OnePlus 12 appears to build on the design language of this year’s OnePlus 11, it’s more refined and looks absolutely incredible in the green option.
OnePlus is moving the iconic alerts slider in the opposite direction. As of now, all OnePlus flagship phones feature a silent/vibrate switch above the volume buttons on the right side. But the OnePlus 12 is shifting it to the left and OnePlus has a good reason for it. “By moving the alert slider to the opposite side of the phone, a better gaming antenna can be positioned on the OnePlus 12,” the company says. The re-positioning of the alert slider is said to allow OnePlus to offer better antenna signal performance and “reduce game latency by up to 15%.”
OnePlus has also confirmed the presence of a periscope lens in its upcoming flagship. The OnePlus 12 will have a 3x periscope telephoto camera, along with a “4th Gen Hasselblad Camera for Mobile.” You can expect better color tuning with the next generation Hasselblad integration. For reference, the OnePlus 11 has a 2x telephoto camera, but a dedicated 3x periscope lens would bring better zooming capabilities in both range and quality.
The OnePlus 12 features a textured pattern on green options, which is said to have “interwoven strands and breathe vibrant life into the device” and is labeled as “Dart River” by the company . No matter what OnePlus’ marketing team says or whether it wants to tie the design to nature, there’s no doubt that the new pattern on the back looks gorgeous. The other two colors include silver (which looks classy) and black, which is similar to the OnePlus 11.

There weren’t any glaring misses with this year’s OnePlus flagship, but there was room for improvement with a better telephoto camera and wireless charging. While the company has not confirmed the former, rumors suggest that the OnePlus 12 Desire Support wireless charging capabilities. I like the fact that OnePlus has worked on improving the design as well as adding more features to the mix. However, this is likely to increase the price, and you shouldn’t expect the OnePlus 12 to launch at the same price as the OnePlus 11, at $699.
Talking about rumors, the OnePlus 12 is said to have the new Sony LYT-808 sensor for the 50MP primary camera, which was first used in the OnePlus Open. It is said to come with a 64MP 3x periscope camera and a 48MP ultrawide-angle lens. On paper it looks like a solid camera setup.
The OnePlus 12 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and is said to have a 2K display. It will likely start with 256GB of storage and pack a 5,400mAh battery with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging.
According to Engadget, the global launch date of the OnePlus 12 will be announced on December 15, but that doesn’t stop us from speculating. According to Android Authority, the OnePlus 12 could go global by January 23, 2024. The speculation is based on marketing materials from OnePlus, where it is running a giveaway until the end of January 23, 2024.
The OnePlus 12 gift campaign also mentions that six winners will be selected to win “one more” new phone. This could mean that OnePlus could launch the OnePlus 12R – a successor to the excellent OnePlus 11R. Historically, the OnePlus R series has been limited to the Indian market. These devices typically ship with generation-old processors and lesser camera features, but they offer great value.
OnePlus 12R could be a great marketing plan to undercut the next-generation flagship from the OnePlus 11 by launching the OnePlus 12R at a price of $699 or lower and keeping the price of the true flagship, the OnePlus 12, above this year’s price .
