PlayStation Plus is the perfect stocking stuffer for RPG fan…

I thought I had my fill of gaming subscription services. The price increase for PlayStation Plus disappointed me and the Xbox Game Pass offering has never been to my liking. While both of these have their positives, I’ve never been one to waste that much money every month on games I don’t really care about. That was until I jumped into my annual Christmas-time RPG mood and discovered the abundance of classics built on PS Plus.

Like the seasons, my gaming tastes change throughout the year. I dread whenever September and October roll around, but for some reason, I always crave a good RPG during the holidays. So like every year, I set out in search of a new title to focus my attention on. I didn’t know that many of those titles were available as PlayStation Plus Premium for a relatively low monthly fee.

After PlayStation upgraded its Plus program from offering two free titles a month to a multi-tier Xbox Game Pass-like service, the service’s catalog became much larger. The Premium tier is the highest of the three and provides access to a massive library of PS1, PS2, PSP, PS3, PS4, and PS5 games. What finally convinced me to take the risk and re-subscribe was the number of RPGs I found while browsing the library.

Of the games I always wanted to play but missed, like Odin SphereFor new titles that I would love to experience again Yakuza: like a dragon, there was enough to justify diving back in. And those titles aren’t even a small percentage of what’s available here. Vanillaware titles, Square Enix games, NIS franchises I’d never heard of – there’s a lot to dig into. I’ve sat aside entire days to watch these games, spending 30 minutes to an hour with them and deciding whether I’ll keep them installed or move on.

Save on everything from laptops and tablets to coffee makers and smart home essentials like air purifiers and the Amazon Echo.

This experience took me back to my childhood days when demos were more prevalent. I downloaded a ton of trial games that I’d never seen before, just because I was bored over the weekend. My latest PlayStation Plus experience, except it gave me entire titles at a fraction of the price I would have needed them all.

I’ve never been one to really care for these subscription services. I’m the type of person who subscribes for a month, eats a ton, and then unsubscribes shortly thereafter. I’m sure if I’m honest with myself it will be the same this time. But considering I spent $18 for hours of content during my RPG season and I was introduced to one of my new favorites Odin Sphere I feel like I spent my money well.

If you’re like me, or need a good gift idea for someone like me, a curious subscription won’t go unused. It offers a ton of games from heavy-hitting franchises like Final Fantasy, Yakuza, Star Ocean, and much more. Grab a voucher code, stuff it in a stocking and give the gift of SpongeBob SquarePants to your loved ones this year.
