From Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons To micro chain To solstice, single-player games where players technically control two characters simultaneously have always fascinated me. That’s why I was excited to learn that Riot Forge — which creates single-player, narrative-driven League of Legends spinoffs — was working with the developers admiring To create Nunu’s Song: A League of Legends Story. The cinematic 3D puzzle-platformer features two lesser-known League of Legends champions: a yotai named Nunu and his yeti friend, Willump.
This adventure looked even more promising when it became clear that it was the successor to some of Tequila Works’ best titles, admiring And gold water, The result is the best Riot Forge title yet. Nunu’s Song: A League of Legends Story Nunu and Willump continue their quest to find Nunu’s mother, from whom he was separated after his Yotai caravan was attacked, and to learn more about a magical artifact called the Heart of the Blue. The pair explore the icy Freljord region of Runeterra, encountering other League of Legends champions like Broome, Orn, and Lysandra in an adventure that prioritizes its narrative as much as it tells a story about the found family. and how people of all ages cope with grief. After losing a pet earlier this year, these themes resonated with me.
I’ve previously praised Riot Forge for offering unique looks at specific characters and parts of the League of Legends world that are impossible to explore in the popular MOBA. Tequila Works has created a linear adventure and puzzle-driven 3D platformer in its genre along the lines of story-focused games. admiring, This is not a complex action-oriented adventure super mario odyssey, because Nunu and Willump control too much and lose momentum after the jump. Instead, it jumps from one idea to the next in a way that most strengthens the tone or story of that game segment.
One moment, I was climbing stairs Uncharted-style, and the next, I was playing a song with Nunu’s Svelsongur flute to move a large creature, or using Willump’s powers to create a path. Was cooling off with water, or sliding down a snowy path on Willump’s back, or getting involved in a snowball fight between Nunu and Willump. nunu’s song Emphasizes variety while keeping the adventure short and constantly fresh. it only took me six hours to beat nunu’s songBut every moment of it felt handmade.
This approach also means that if a particular gameplay style does not resonate with a player, certain parts of the game will feel like a letdown. This happened to me with the late-game stealth section, which immediately resets me to a checkpoint if Nunu was caught. Thankfully, since this was only a small part of the adventure, I was able to quickly move on to something else I enjoyed as the game continued to flow dynamically from one idea to the next.

Tequila Works has mastered subtle design choices that can enhance a narrative, like carefully framing the camera in specific gameplay sections for emotional impact or making sure there’s a little dead air between set pieces until That it’s not emotionally necessary for the story. This, along with how the gameplay flows dynamically between Nunu and Nunu riding Willump, makes nunu’s song Feels like a natural adventure, which immerses me even more in its world. The PC version of the game always looked crisp and boasted its vibrant visual design, although the frame rate would occasionally stutter and take me out of the loop for a few moments.
As the story ends, Nunu goes from being sad to being a hero worthy of being called a League of Legends champion. The completion of that emotional arc tugged at my heart. nunu’s song It’s not the most complex puzzle platformer and there are occasional frustrations. Still, everything it does is in service of a compelling narrative that’s only enhanced by its unique two-for-one gameplay.
