This week from Monday, the IRS (Internal Revenue Services) has begun accepting tax returns. According to the chief tax information officer at Jackson Hewitt, Mark Steber, this year taxpayers can expect bigger refunds than the earlier year’s refunds.
When can I expect my tax refund 2024?
On January 29, the IRS began the tax returns process. The taxpayers have time till April 15 to file their returns. You can also opt for an extension if you need more time. The extension will grant you time till mid-October to claim your tax returns.
If you are a resident of Massachusetts and Maine you can file the tax return till April 17 due to state holidays. If you are from disaster areas declared by the federal government, you will be granted more time to file your tax returns.
Now, the million-dollar question, when can you expect your tax refund? Well, the IRS stated that most taxpayers will get their refund within 21 days of filing the returns. For instance, if you file your return today, you will get your refund in your account in the next 21 days.
However, some tax returns can take more than 21 days, depending on the review time. It’s been said that paper returns take more time, so it would be best if you file your returns online.
Another thing to keep in mind is that if you are filing the tax claiming earned income tax credit (EITC) or additional child tax Credit (ACTC), you may face a delay in receiving your returns. But not to worry, it’s good if you can file with a child tax credit because it could ensure a good amount of refund to many parents.
Remember, the faster you file your return electronically, the more quickly you will get your refund in a 21-day period or maybe in two weeks.

IRS Tax Refund Status
The IRS has said that they will update the “Where’s My Refund?” tool to provide more accurate details about the refund to the taxpayers. So, now you will not receive the usual message that your tax refunds are in process and come back later to check. It would be exciting to see what update the IRS will give to make it more accurate.
EITC/ACT Refund Date
As mentioned earlier, if you are filing your tax returns with EITC or ATCT claims you might get a delay in your tax refund. This is because the IRS must hold the returns under the federal Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act EITC and ACTC till mid-February.
This change assists the agency in preventing any fraud and making sure that the right people will get the right credit. Therefore, as stated by the IRS, you can expect your refunds in your account with EITC/ATCT around February 27, if you select the direct deposit and there are no issues with your tax returns.
With the beginning of the tax process of 2024, make sure you file your return electronically and carefully to get your refund in 21 days. Mark the tax return schedule in your calendar and enjoy the tax refunds of this year.
