In the serene landscape of Hainburg an der Donau in eastern Austria, architect Jan Tyrpekl has woven a tale of calmness and connection with nature through his creation, the Zen House. This architectural gem, nestled among the trees, excels as a traditional design to offer a unique experience for the users. Situated within a farm complex, which is used for both animal husbandry and social events, the Zen Tiny House stands proudly as a compact building delicately perched on stilts. The orchard and trees beautify the views around the house, which is made in archetypal shape and is complemented by a terrace.
What sets it apart is its elevated structure, letting the landscape flow freely beneath it. The architect’s vision is to forge an intentional connection with the surrounding environment, achieved through the generous use of glass walls.
The living area is like a bird’s nest and is elevated four meters above the ground. This elevation not only provides a breathtaking view but also imparts a sense of security and intimacy. The magnificent structure brings seamless integration of elements such as a built-in bar connected to the bed and a fireplace. A transition zone, featuring two opposing HS portals, invites inhabitants to step into either the welcoming terrace or the enchanting orchard.

Crafted with careful attention to detail, the lower part and terrace structure of the Zen Tiny House showcases the use of glued laminated larch timbers. The building itself boasts a frame constructed from glued laminated spruce timbers, resting atop a robust wooden CLT panel platform for stability and resilience. The CLT panels extend their support to the roof structure, completing the architectural masterpiece.
The Zen House will continue to evolve, as the plans are to integrate a sauna, shower, and toilet nestled between the pillars. This envisioned expansion promises to enhance the already harmonious blend of nature and architecture that defines this unique retreat.
